New Senior VP of Product Gives Health Gorilla a Boost

After studying astronautics and aerospace engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Toronto, and International Space University, Derek Plansky arrived at Stanford University with plans to earn his Ph.D. But the siren song of Silicon Valley proved too strong and he has been working in technology ever since.

Plansky, our new Senior Vice President of Product, will guide Health Gorilla’s product vision, strategy, design, and development as the company continues to improve data access for all. He brings 20 years of experience working with data technology companies such as LexisNexis, IBM, Loral, and Quest Diagnostics.

“We are pleased to welcome an actual rocket scientist to Health Gorilla,” Steve Yaskin, CEO and co-founder of Health Gorilla, said in the press release. “Healthcare interoperability is complicated stuff, and we need the very best minds working together. Derek is one of those great minds.”

For the past five years, Plansky has been president and founder of Informatic Ideas, a consultancy focused on helping clients make sense of their data. His mission over the past decade has been creating sustainable solutions that exchange and analyze clinical and financial data to help improve patient care and population health, as well as reduce costs in the U.S. healthcare system.

“Health Gorilla has done amazing things in the interoperability space,” Plansky said. “I am honored to be joining such a distinguished group of people and look forward to sharing my own expertise as we advance health data access together.”

Our innovative Health Interoperability Platform (HIP) is currently used by digital health providers, telemedicine, and life insurance underwriters. As SVP of Product, Plansky will help grow this platform to support an even more diverse set of clinical use cases such as payers, Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), electronic health records (EHRs), and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs).

Plansky will also be instrumental in Health Gorilla’s ongoing pursuit of a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) designation under the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). As a QHIN, we will be able to expand on our interoperability solutions that we already have in place with our suite of industry-leading APIs and software products.
